Superior Valley Gunnery Range, California

This range, located at the southern end of China Lake Naval Weapons Station, is used by the military for target practice. It is instrumented with radar and electronic targeting systems, and has a tracking control tower and two observation towers. Other features include a range operations center, and - due to its remoteness - a self-contained electrical generating system, which includes a large photovoltaic system. A total of around sixty targets are located on the range, including simulated missile batteries and convoys, a simulated airfield, and circular targets. Aircraft from the Pacific Fleet often use the range, which sees around 500 events per year. The range covers around 75 square miles.
