With 228 million barrels of oil stored in 22 caverns, this dome is the largest of the four facilities that are part of the federal government’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve. There are also three natural gas and 12 petroleum gas caverns here capable of storing another 40 million barrels of gas, and operated by private companies.
