Met Life Stadium

Sports are what most people think of when they think of the Meadowlands. The sports complex was an early development project by the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission. It is a cluster of a half dozen mega-structures, surrounded by parking lots. The complex is dominated by the new Meadowlands Stadium (MetLife bought naming rights for it, so it is now called the MetLife Stadium). The stadium is the home field for the NY Giants and NY Jets football teams, who sometimes play each other here, an unusual rivalry on shared home turf. It cost $1.6billion, and opened in 2010. The previous 33-year old stadium was demolished in 2009.
