This is a former chemical plant, now abandoned, and being assessed for remediation, while frequented as a postindustrial playground. It was part of a chemical research complex, still operating next door as Scientific Design Incorporated, which continues to manufacture catalysts and to develop process technology for the plastics and petroleum industry. The company, established here in the late 1940s, is now owned by Saudi Basic Industries and a German chemical company, and has additional operations in China and Bahrain.
