"Property In The Harper Lake Basin" was an exhibit of the current findings in this ongoing project based out of the Center's Desert Research Station, in the Mojave Desert near Barstow. The Harper Lake Basin is a region of around 100 square miles, surrounding Harper Lake, a dry lake bed. One of more than 50 dry lakes in the California desert, Harper is both unique and typical. The "Property" project examines the contemporary microhistories of the individual lots of private and public land in the basin, in order to discover and describe land use characteristics that reveal the dynamics of development and decay in these desert dry lake basin environments.
