THOUGH THE CENTER’S YEAR-LONG focus on oil wrapped up with the end of 2009, (the sesquicentennial year of the oil industry in the United States), our Houston field office continues to support regional programming. An exhibit area has been installed inside the field office trailer, housing an exhibit about the industrial end of the Buffalo Bayou, and Houston’s petrochemical corridor. The exhibit is open by appointment.

Work continued this winter on the research vessel being assembled at the Field Office site, a former junkyard on the Buffalo Bayou. The vessel is being built by Simparch, a group that often partners with the CLUI on building projects. The boat, built on pontoons, will house a small team for expeditions on inland waterways. The expected launch is in April, 2010.
