Ocean Star Museum, Texas

A museum about the offshore oil industry, located in an oil rig in the Galveston ship channel. Features of the museum include equipment used on offshore rigs, including remotely operated vehicles, the Life on a Rig interactive kiosk, and the 12 minute video The Story of Offshore. The Ocean Star rig is a Jack-up type, built in Beaumont, Texas, in 1969, and was in service in the Gulf of Mexico before becoming this museum in 1997. The museum is operated by the Offshore Energy Center, an industry organization supported by offshore energy companies like BHP. There is another oil rig museum in Morgan City, Louisiana (the Mister Charlie) at the International Petroleum Museum and Exposition.
