National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Ohio

Considered the largest military aviation museum in the world, the museum is located at one of the most important sites for aviation research and development in the world: Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Three large hangars and a missile silo built for the museum contain hundreds of aircraft and displays, chronologically arranged from the Wright Brothers, through the World Wars, to the present. Notable especially is the lone remaining Valkyrie, an absolutely massive jet bomber. Under the Valkyrie's wing, like an ugly gray duckling, is the only publicly displayed prototype of the Have Blue airplane, an early stealth aircraft developed at Groom Lake (Area 51). In addition to aircraft, displays show examples of consumer spin-offs from military and space technologies, such as Tang, Velcro, and Dustbusters.
