National Building Museum, District of Columbia

A museum with changing exhibits about the built landscape of the USA. The museum is inside a building with a most remarkable atrium, with eight Corinthian columns, likely the tallest interior columns in the nation. Presidential inaugural balls and other special D.C. events are held here. The museum exhibits are shown in rooms surrounding this space. Many interesting exhibits have been presented here, such as House of Cars, about parking garages, as well as exhibits about world's fairs, elevators and escalators, Sam Mockbee and the Rural Studio, air conditioning, and one about the Bechtel Corporation, put together by the experts on the subject: the Bechtel Corporation. Though the National Building Museum says it's "the only institution in the United States dedicated to American achievements in architecture, urban planning, construction, engineering and design," there may be a few others, though none with so grand a structure.
