Monticello Nuclear Power Plant, Minnesota

Monticello Nuclear Power Plant is located 40 miles north of Minneapolis, in Monticello, Minnesota, along the Mississippi River, the source of its cooling water. It is home to one boiling water reactor, whose output capacity is 671MW. Its operating license was issued in 1970. The plant owned by Xcel Energy Inc. Two mechanical draft cooling towers are also to be found on site, as well as an Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI), which provides interim storage in dry casks for the plant's spent fuel rods, in addition to other types of radioactive waste.
