Kennedy Space Center (NASA), Florida

A complex of assembly buildings and rocket launch sites, established in the 1960's for the Apollo program, and now the launch site for NASA space missions. Located on around 100 square miles at the north end of Merritt Island, adjacent to the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (where military and commercial satellites are launched), the Kennedy Space Center was the primary site for Space Shuttle missions based at Complex 39, containing launch platforms, the launch control center, landing sites, and the vehicle assembly building, a 525-foot tall structure where the shuttle components were joined.
