Jackalope Sculpture Douglas, Wyoming

A sculpture in downtown Douglas, Wyoming, and a few others around town, attests to the claim that the town is the birthplace of the Jackalope, a mythological creature, famous (to some) throughout the American West.  The creature is said to have been invented at the Herrick brothers taxidermy shop in town, in 1934, by putting antlers on a jackrabbit. The town encourages the notoriety of the creature, and issues hunting permits for them every year.
