Crazy Horse at Thunder Mountain, South Dakota

An ongoing carving of the Native American leader Crazy Horse, on his horse that, when and if completed will stand 563 feet high, carved out of the living rock of Thunder Mountain. It is operated by the Crazy Horse Foundation, a private non-profit organization. The children of Korczak Ziolkowski, a Polish-American sculptor who launched the project in 1948, are determined to complete their father's vision. To do so they manage the site as a major (and expensive) tourist attraction. The Sioux warrior's head is large enough to contain all four of the presidential heads from neighboring Mount Rushmore.
