Churubusco/Franklin Border Crossing, New York

Traffic at the remote Churubusco/Franklin border crossing was slow enough that Canadian officials closed and demolished their Port of Entry here in 2011. The Americans, however, continued with their plans to upgrade theirs, along with dozens of others all over the country, to a more up to date, post-9/11 standard. The new US Port of Entry here opened in 2013, featuring a structure that is identical to some others of this type along the New York boundary line. It cost more than $10 million. With the Canadian crossing permanently closed, this is a rare, one-way border crossing, and sees even less travel than it did before.
