| One of three underground nuclear tests performed at different places on this 43-mile long island in the Aleutian Chain. This 1969 test, named Milrow, consisted of an 1.2 megaton-yield bomb, detonated at the bottom of a 3,990-foot shaft. The test was part of a calibration program conducted to measure the island's responses to high-yield nuclear tests, in anticipation of another, larger test, code-named Cannikin. The island of Amchitka was a military outpost in WWII, and the air field and base camp from that facility were reused for the nuclear testing program. |

| The site is in the southern half of the island, a few miles north west of the Main Camp airstrip and south of the site of project Long Shot, a previous nuclear test. |
